BELLEVILLE SHOE MANUFACTURING COMPANY Receives Defense Logistics Agency Vendor Excellence Award

FORT BELVOIR, Va., Belleville Shoe Manufacturing Co., Belleville, Ill., was among the award recipients when the Defense Logistics Agency honored 18 industry partners, customers and individuals Jan. 20 at its Business Alliance Awards ceremony in Springfield, Va.

Belleville Shoe received the Vendor Excellence Award in the large business category. The award recognizes individual large, small, small disadvantaged and-or women-owned small businesses that have demonstrated overall excellence in superior product quality, on-time delivery, superior customer service, reliability, dependability, consistency and accuracy.

Overall, the Business Alliance Awards recognize those who have demonstrated outstanding efforts to partner with DLA and improve the agency's mission -- providing supplies and services to America's war fighters. DLA Director Vice Admiral Keith W. Lippert presented the annual awards.

The agency's primary role is to provide supplies and services to America's military services worldwide and includes managing more than 4 million consumable items, including rations, medical supplies and equipment, clothing and textiles, and repair parts for land, sea and air weapons systems and platforms.

Belleville Shoe Manufacturing Company recently celebrated its 100th year in business. The company produced its first military footwear for the World War I in 1917, making Belleville Shoe the oldest and largest manufacturer of U.S. specification military boots.

Belleville was nominated for this category based on its superior support to Defense Supply Center Philadelphia with the introduction of the hot-weather Army combat boot and temperate-weather Army combat boot. Belleville is the only manufacturer producing both boot styles, worn with the new Army combat uniform.

DLA provides supply support, and technical and logistics services to the U.S. military services and several federal civilian agencies. Headquartered at Fort Belvoir, Va., the agency is the one source for nearly every consumable item, whether for combat readiness, emergency preparedness or day-to-day operations.
